We checked into the Harp Rally down pedagree corner around 9p.m. At this stage the weather had cleared to a few light showers having hit some torrential downpours as far as Stradbally. The checkin was the usual 12 Euro with badge which was a beauty. The rally and badge were being dedicated to John Mulhall, a club member who was taken from the lads in the last year.
The carpark had quite an amount of bikes in it and the lads had it well secured. Inside the hall there was a good crowd of the usual suspects present. Druids, Slippy Clutch, Ceatharlach, Renegades, No Hopers, Wild Rose, Suir Side and a few clubs from across the pond, The Greedy Pigs and the Black Widows U.K. The lads do quite a few English rallies during the year so they get good support back. The first band up were "Rock of Ages" who played a good tight set of covers getting the crowd in form for the rest of the night.
Now at this stage instead of calling for a minutes silence in memory of John, they called a toast to his life, a first for myself to see at a rally and a nice touch to see several hundred bikers raising thier cans and bottle instead of trying to quieten down some of the ranting drunks amongst us.
Next on the agenda was the spot prizes which as always involves strange items of underwear and attire being brought to the stage, god help ye lads if yer needed hospital assistance as it could be quite embarrassing.
Next up were Power Trippin, what can be said about these lads, amazing as usual, good to see them constantly changing thier set. I did hear Systems of a Down and Green Day thrown in amongst the Maiden and Lizzy stuff. During thier set Jimmy from the band was given John's guitar by his family and club to play a couple of songs, Jimmy obliged by playing Wish you were here and Born to be Wild.
Later and it was time for the Wet T-Shirt competition at which point I made my way to the well vacated bar and from my vantage point, some of the women were getting over enthusiastic with the cash prize on offer. I had to retire the worse for wear at 4 a.m. and the place was still in full flight overall an excellent night was had. The club should be proud of the tribute they paid to John and the smooth running of the rally with very few locals noticeable.
The Clondalkin M.C.C. would like to thank PowerTrippin and Rock of Ages, Blakestown Motorcycle Tyres, Tony Boland and Tommy Clifford for thier sponsorship and everyone that turned up on the night for thier continued support.
